Rooty Hill Rural Fire Brigade has two vehicle assigned to it,
"Eastern Creek 1" and "Support 2".
"Eastern Creek 1" is the radio callsign for the Isuzu four-wheel drive, fire truck assigned to Eastern Creek Fire Station. It is a category 1 tanker. The crew cab has seat capacity of seven crew. She can carry up to 3300 litres (about 870 U.S. gallons and 725 U.K. gallons) of water.
Though primarily used as a bush fire fighting appliance, she can also be used for "village" fire fighting, that is, for house and motor vehicle fires. This model can fight fires "on-the-move". Crew can be walking in front, next to or behind her while attacking a grass fire, or crew can be in the open-air area just behind the cab while attacking a grass fire.
There are three cabinets on either side of the truck.
In the cabinets on the right-hand side we store two breathing apparatus (for use in buildings), a first aid kit, tools, and water - - we have to drink a lot of water while fighting bushfires.
In the cabinets on the left-hand side we store hoses (64mm, 38mm and 25mm diameters = 2.5, 1.5 and 1 inches), branches (nozzles), reducers (to reduce diameters) and Y-couplings. All of our hoses have Storz fittings.
Under these cabinets we carry a porta-pump and two water knapsacks with about 14 litres of water each, for use when we can not get hoses to a fire.
In Australia there are very few fire hydrants above the ground. So we carry two standpipes in the area just behind the crew cab, so that we can get water from the water hydrants, which are usually about 30cm (one foot) below ground level.
At the back is a diesel pump and two hose reels, which each have about 50 metres of 25mm diameter plastic hose.
The truck has been in Blacktown Fire District since 1997, when she was provided new to the Doonside Brigade. When the Doonside Brigade closed in 2001, the truck moved to Eastern Creek Station and became "Rooty Hill 1". She has since been renamed "Eastern Creek 1" in accordance with RFS protocols.
