Rooty Hill Rural Fire Brigade

About us

The Rooty Hill Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer fire service functioning under the New South Wales (NSW) Rural Fires Act 1997 as part of the NSW Rural Fire Service. The Brigade responds to grass/bush fires, house fires and motor vehicle accidents in its area, which includes Rooty Hill, Eastern Creek and Minchinbury. We respond with the NSW Fire Brigades to calls in Doonside and the industrial estates of Arndell Park and Huntingwood. We also assist other Rural Fire Service brigades, NSW Fire Brigades and other emergency services on large incidents and incidents out of our area.

The Brigade has approximately 60 members, of which approximately 30 are active members. It is the 'active members' who fight fires, after completing Basic Firefighter training. Our active members include males and females, ranging in age from 18 to 50. A person can become an active firefighter as young as 16 if they have parental/guardian consent.

A Basic Firefighter is trained to fight bush and forest fires. Additional training is required to handle structural (building) fires, motor vehicle fires, breathing appartus or a chainsaw.

Rooty Hill is one of six brigades of the Blacktown Rural Fire District. The district is approximately thirty kilometres west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

The Blacktown Fire District, Penrith Fire District and Fairfield Fire District collectively form the Cumberland Zone. The Cumberland Zone is part of the Eastern Region of the NSW RFS.
